Detailed 7 Days Wildlife & Adventure Itinerary

Airport Pickup & Mirissa Overnight

Meet your Goalie Tours representative and private driver-guide at Bandaranaike International Airport for a warm welcome and assistance with luggage, then transfer to Mirissa on the southern coast, using the expressway where practical for a smooth first journey.

After check-in, the rest of the day is kept free with no scheduled sightseeing or activities, so guests can settle in, rest after the flight and prepare for the early marine start on Day 2.

Activities

  • Airport meet-and-assist
  • Private air-conditioned transfer
  • Relaxed coastal arrival

Overnight Stay: Mirissa

Mirissa Whale Watching & Evening Yala Safari

Start early for a Mirissa whale and dolphin watching boat trip, operated subject to season, sea conditions and local safety decisions, planned as an observational marine activity rather than a guaranteed sighting checklist.

After returning to shore, continue toward the Yala/Tissamaharama area with comfort stops as needed, then join an evening safari in Yala National Park, where dry-zone scenery, lagoons, birdlife, elephants, deer and the possibility of leopard sightings create the first major safari experience of the tour.

Activities

  • Morning whale and dolphin watching boat trip
  • Transfer to the Yala / Tissamaharama area
  • Evening Yala National Park safari

Overnight Stay: Yala / Tissamaharama

Yala to Sinharaja Rainforest Region

Leave the Yala/Tissamaharama area after breakfast and travel toward the Sinharaja rainforest region, as the road journey moves from dry-zone landscapes into wetter hills, tea country, village roads and forest edges.

This day is kept mainly as a transfer and rainforest-region arrival day, allowing guests to settle near Deniyaya or the selected Sinharaja access area without a heavy activity programme, with a quiet evening to enjoy the cooler forest atmosphere.

Activities

  • Scenic dry-zone-to-rainforest transfer
  • Rainforest-region arrival near Deniyaya

Overnight Stay: Sinharaja / Deniyaya

Udawalawe Safari & Ella Arrival

Leave the Sinharaja region and travel toward Udawalawe elephant country. Depending on timing and the final quotation, the programme can include a Udawalawe safari or an observational Elephant Transit Home visit from the public viewing area.

Udawalawe is known for open landscapes, reservoir edges, elephants, water buffalo, crocodiles, deer and dry-zone birdlife, viewed respectfully and without feeding, touching, chasing or crowding. Afterward, continue into the hill country and arrive in Ella for the night, well positioned for the next day’s activity programme.

Activities

  • Udawalawe safari or Elephant Transit Home visit
  • Transfer into the hill country
  • Ella arrival

Overnight Stay: Ella

Ella Activity Day

Spend the day exploring Ella at a flexible pace. The programme can include Little Adam’s Peak, Nine Arch Bridge, Ravana Falls viewpoints or selected scenic stops depending on weather, crowd levels and guest comfort.

For more active guests, an optional soft-adventure experience such as a zipline-style activity or a longer walk can be considered when operator safety and availability allow; for a gentler day, the same programme can be adjusted to viewpoints and cafe stops. Return to the same hotel for a second, relaxed hill-country night.

Activities

  • Ella viewpoints and light walks
  • Nine Arch Bridge and Ravana Falls
  • Optional soft-adventure activity

Overnight Stay: Ella

Ella to Horton Plains & Nuwara Eliya

Leave early from Ella and continue toward Horton Plains National Park, as the route moves through highland roads, tea country and cooler mountain scenery before reaching the park area.

Walk the World’s End and Baker’s Falls trail, subject to weather, park operations and guest fitness — an early start offers the best chance of clear, rewarding views. Afterward, continue to Nuwara Eliya and check in for a relaxed evening.

Activities

  • Horton Plains World’s End and Baker’s Falls trail
  • Transfer to Nuwara Eliya

Overnight Stay: Nuwara Eliya

Departure Transfer from Nuwara Eliya

After breakfast, begin the departure transfer from Nuwara Eliya toward Colombo or Bandaranaike International Airport, timed around flight reporting requirements, road conditions and traffic.

No sightseeing or activities are scheduled on the final day; only necessary comfort stops, meal stops or direct transfer arrangements are included based on the flight schedule, bringing the seven-day wildlife, rainforest and highland adventure to a smooth close.

Important Notes

Experience Highlights

Designed for Active Travel: This route keeps the first and last days simple for arrival and departure, while Days 2–6 carry the core wildlife, rainforest and highland experiences, so early starts and flexible timing matter.

Respectful Wildlife Encounters: Udawalawe and Yala visits follow a respectful, observational approach, with no elephant riding, bathing, touching or forced close-contact experiences.

Genuine Variety in a Compact Route: A single seven-day circuit links ocean, dry-zone safari, rainforest and highland environments, balanced with two two-night stays in Yala/Tissamaharama, Sinharaja and Ella so the pace never feels rushed.

Planning Notes

  • All driving, safari, whale-watching, Ella activities and Horton Plains trekking times are approximate and may change with traffic, weather, sea conditions, park operations and guest comfort.
  • Whale watching is subject to season, sea conditions and safety clearance. Off-season or rough-sea days can be replaced with coastal experiences.
  • Safari sightings are never guaranteed. Park rules, wildlife welfare and safe viewing distances take priority over photography.
  • Sinharaja-region travel may involve narrow village roads and nature-focused accommodation; suitable luggage and flexible timing are recommended.
  • Horton Plains is cold in the morning and requires an early start; warm layers are recommended.
  • Day 1 and Day 7 are planned without scheduled activities so arrival and departure remain clean and manageable.
